Vintage Me: Awkwardpalooza

VINTAGE ME is a series I started in June while I was away at the Type-A Parent conference in Asheville, NC and I'm wrapping it up this week with a competition.

My challenge to you? Find the most awkward photo of you and post it THIS WEEK. There is a Linky at the bottom of this post. If you're not sure how to link up, shoot me an email. Prizes for the MOST AWKWARD!

Let's take a look at awkward me. There are so many options, it's hard to choose just one. But when I saw this photo I thought it clearly deserved a post of its own. Let's take a moment to take in everything that is going on here, shall we?

Vintage Me: Wedding

From one of my bridal showers. My sister, sister-in-laws and niece. Any shower that serves pizza with green olives and ham on it in a WIN in my book.

My niece and I getting our groove on at our wedding. Love that she loves to dance as much as me. I think the only song that we weren't both on the dance floor for was Billy Jean. Everyone left the dance floor for that one and the DJ played the w-h-o-l-e thing.

Vintage Me: Work

VINTAGE ME is a series I started in June while I was away at the Type-A Parent conference in Asheville, NC and I'm continuing it this week while I am attending BlogHer '11 in San Diego, CA.

Ahh, yes! I moved to DC at the ripe old age of 20. So I am most likely a very newly minted 21 in this photo (second from right). I worked at the most amazing company. We all worked hard and partied harder. One of our colleagues was a DJ and always got us into this club for free on Saturday nights. Some of the best times of my life.

A welcome party for my second internship. I'm sporting the Midwestern flair (plaid) on the left.

Interpreting for my very first concert, an all day festival less than two weeks after I arrived in DC. My awesome camera got pickpocketed, but I didn't care because the people I was with were so amazing! This town taught me everything I ever needed to know in life. This was the time of my personal revolution.

This was just days after I arrived (DC AIDS Walk). It was an awesome time to connect with some of the movers and shakers at the company and get to see the city.

The woman in the middle let another intern (right) and I stay with her for a week while we figured out where to live. She took us out to Skyline Drive to show us some really gorgeous views.

Here we I am at a Luau party. This would be the party where I mistaken licked what I thought was teriyaki sauce off a banana--it was in fact Sterno. Hello Poison Control, it's me Alissa.....again.

To Infinity and Beyond, yo! A photo from a 30 minute tour of NASA with a very over EAGER tour guide who kept us for 3+ hours. Whoa, dude..simmer down.

Vintage Me: Family

For those of you who were just at EVO you know how amazing Park City is. This is a shot from the late 90's with my siblings and niece. We were almost all out of the water and my mom made us move back in for this picture. It's a great shot. (I'm second from right.)

Seventh grade. Halloween.

My mom and stepdad had only been married for 3ish years at this point and he dressed up as a duck WITH TIGHTS for her. That my friends is L-O-V-E!

Do you have "that place" where seemingly every holiday picture your family has ever taken is situated? People get older, but the place stays the same? This is ours. (It's at my grandparents place in Missouri.) I think this was when I was in college, since 5 of 7 people are wearing Nautica. (I worked there in college and they had a great family discount.)

This is my brother and I dancing at a wedding. I posted this picture for two reasons. ONE the ridiculously long hair on me and TWO because I used to have this picture on a wall in my apartment and every. single. person. GAY or STRAIGHT who walked into my house asked who that was. Because he was SO HOT!

This is from a family vacation just before I met my husband. I used pictures from this vacation as the profile image for my Match.com account.

Then there is this bad boy. It's one of my all-time favorite pictures. The "FUN" in this picture just jumps out at me. It's my brother-in-law, sister-in-law, me and the hubs. If I could replicate this moment every day of my life I would!

Vintage Me: Theatre

I wish I could find my huge book of high school drama pictures. I nearly trashed our house one weekend looking for them. You'll have to settle for these tid bits.

From a haunted house that was run in an old church. Stellar acting, I was "dead person on stairs". The best part is that legally we weren't allowed to move or touch people or make noises because of the stair issue, but EVERYONE was freaked out that we were going to.

From The Man Who Came to Dinner. I was the crazy old chick.

From Bye Bye Birdie. I was the tap dancing bimbo and it should be noted this was before I actually knew how to tap dance. Comical and I had to land in the splits where in a previous scene they had just dumped out a can of coke. Classy, no?

Vintage Me: High School

That's me in the plaid pants lounging on the floor on the far left. I'm sure there have to be far more embarrasing pictures of me from drama in high school, but I can't seem to find them (well, except for the ones I'm posting tomorrow). The best part of this picture is that my mom TOLD me not to wear those pants, because there were my favorite. And, I was all what could possibly happen and umm....I came down a ladder and stepped in a gallon of paint is exactly what happened. Moms! Go figure sometimes they're right.

Being from Michigan, every year my high school would take a bus full of interested kids to Stratford in Canada for a Shakespeare production. You'd think there would be a ton of drama kids, but I think that we were always outnumbered by the English classes. I can't remember the show this year, but I'm thinking it was Twelfth Night. I'm the one crouched down in front (in black). The annual trip is one of my favorite memories from high school. I'd love to take Liam there some day.

Because I wasn't hippy-ish at all (cough, cough) here is a picture of me at my graduation party from high school.

Graduation from high school. I'm on the far right! Except for connecting with one of these ladies on Facebook last year I haven't heard from any of them since that day. Crazy how life happens like that.

Vintage Me: Middle School (Unleash the Beast)

I love this picture. Always have, always will. It's from my first middle school production of "Charlotte's Web".

Just getting my middle school photo shoot on with a camera that took 110 speed film. Also, notice the vest--I had a lot of those then. That and silk shirts. Eeek.

My first real boyfriend, he's now a Dean at a high school. Those earrings? Trolls. My middle school years were riddled with ridiculously long and weird earring choices. Please forgive me, so I can forgive myself.

A few things with this picture. 1) It's shot in a locker room...kinda weird. 2) HyperColor clothing...enough said. Although not really. The pink dangling out the bottom of my plaid shorts (that I stole from my oldest brother...shhh!) are HyperColor shorts. Who thought that was a good idea?? HyperColor for those unaware is clothing that changes color when it gets warm. Again, shorts??? Not a good idea at. all.

Oh, yes. This is actually 8th grade dancing. I think the guy's name is Chris, but I can't really remember. It was a big deal though. OoooOooooo.

My then step-dad really must love my mom a lot, because she got him to get dressed up in a duck costume shortly after they got married. That's love, yo!

I used to spend some time every summer with my grandparents in Missouri. I have the best memories of it. My grandparents went to clown school in their 60's or 70's so they could go entertain the folks at the nursing home. This took an entire day as I had to learn all the make-up techniques just so. Their professional clown names were Bert and LuLu. Rest in peace!

Vintage Me: Elementary School

You know this was the eighties by the spiral perm. I'm not quite sure WHY my mother insisted that I get spiral perms. They would fall out of my uber-straight hair within a few days and we'd go back for a second one--ugh! Nothing like burning, blistering skin to make your little girl feel special?And, as you can see even after two back-to-back perms it's not very spiral-y.

My sixth grade (end of elementary where I grew up) graduation. I was the class speaker, so I put on a little glitz. Pow!

I have no idea what the impetus behind this picture is. But, it kind of makes me laugh. It's obviously shortly after my parents split at my dad and step-mom's new digs. Things that make you look longingly into a camera and say "hmmmm".

Here's what this picture says to me: "My parents took me to this zoo, made me ride on this pony to show my younger siblings all is well." I have no actual recollection of this event so maybe I was really into it. How would you caption it?

Ahh, and here we go, the angst really begins here. I do not like that my parents are divorced. I do not like that they have remarried.--perhaps I'll make the next 10 years of their life a living hell...
