Eight days in and I'm not sure I'm going to make it this year.
It's more taxing than I remember or perhaps I am less inspired. That's kind of sad to say...to say I am less inspired to do good, be good, pay it forward, think of others, drop random acts of kindness as if my soul is on fire...but it might be true. And, that my friends might make me saddest of all.
There is a lot going on in my life, I hope to have the courage to talk about it here someday...but I'm not sure that I will.
That said, we did pay it forward at Liam's school today. They are taking up a collection of non-perishable food for the local food bank and we took a giant bag full. Liam held my chair steady while we rooted around in the cabinets to find things we could share with others. Oddly enough he had a hard time letting go of about six of our gazillion bags of Ramen noodles. But, he did it and I am proud of him for that. We also added some cans of beans, lots of box mixes and a few large boxes of noodles. I hope that it makes things easier for some hungry families in our community.
If you have a chance come next summer, remember to donate then too. When I went to visit a local food bank this past summer they said it was the time they were most in need. Since folks think about giving at the holidays and not in the spring and summer they find their shelves to be more bare than they'd like in the warmer months.
I'd also like to pass along this post about Gratitude from Megan Jordan of Velveteen Mind. It really spoke to me and to my mission this month.
