Vintage Me: Family

VINTAGE ME is a series I started in June while I was away at the Type-A Parent conference in Asheville, NC and I'm continuing it this week while I am attending BlogHer '11 in San Diego, CA.

My challenge to you? Find the most awkward photo of you and be ready to post it the week of August 8th. I'll have a Linky here and there will be prizes for the most awkward winners.

For those of you who were just at EVO you know how amazing Park City is. This is a shot from the late 90's with my siblings and niece. We were almost all out of the water and my mom made us move back in for this picture. It's a great shot. (I'm second from right.)

Seventh grade. Halloween.

My mom and stepdad had only been married for 3ish years at this point and he dressed up as a duck WITH TIGHTS for her. That my friends is L-O-V-E!

Do you have "that place" where seemingly every holiday picture your family has ever taken is situated? People get older, but the place stays the same? This is ours. (It's at my grandparents place in Missouri.) I think this was when I was in college, since 5 of 7 people are wearing Nautica. (I worked there in college and they had a great family discount.)

This is my brother and I dancing at a wedding. I posted this picture for two reasons. ONE the ridiculously long hair on me and TWO because I used to have this picture on a wall in my apartment and every. single. person. GAY or STRAIGHT who walked into my house asked who that was. Because he was SO HOT!

This is from a family vacation just before I met my husband. I used pictures from this vacation as the profile image for my Match.com account.

Then there is this bad boy. It's one of my all-time favorite pictures. The "FUN" in this picture just jumps out at me. It's my brother-in-law, sister-in-law, me and the hubs. If I could replicate this moment every day of my life I would!

Check back tomorrow for more VINTAGE ME!

Hiatus Interuptus

My apologies for the lack of posting as of late. I have found myself without work which is certainly far from ideal financially. However, it's been a piece of heaven in the whole "getting to be a family" department. We've had dinner together, gone to parks together, etc. It's been magical.

Our family structure isn't a Hallmark card, but it works for us... and, it's our normal. Some days we have but 5 minutes between the time Tim gets home and when I leave for work. The day is an endless list of things I must tell Tim in that time and things he must tell me. Many days, it's our only opportunity to talk.

For the last several days we have supremely enjoyed our time together. We've spent the evenings watching shows we love, talking, being a couple. It's been good.

Think Before You Speak

Our little guy has been ill. Crazy ill. He had this tiny cough which grew up into a big bad cough and wheezy chest, runny nose, etc. The poor kid is so uncomfortable that he doesn't know which way is up. That coupled with the fact that after the first night back in my own bed, I did something awful to my shoulder and neck. It may have had something to do with the fact that on Sunday during our flight back the person in front of us had their seat all the way reclined on the airplane. So, I was tightly holding onto the little guy for the whole duration. Maybe it stressed things out. I'm on two pain killers that aren't even beginning to take the edge off of the stabbing pain. (sigh)

All that to say that I didn't go to work last night and the hubs and I actually had an evening together. We watched a little American Idol. He played around on his favorite car forum and then we were chillin' watching who knows what when an ad for the new movie "Clash of the Titans" comes on. Well, all I saw was what looked like people dressed from way back and some sandy type of environment when the hubs said, "I can't believe they are remaking that.". And, I said, " What, the Ten Commandments?" It was literally a split second after it came out of my mouth that I saw a dinosaur tail go "thwack" "thwack" "thwack" before it's head reared into view and growled at us. Ummm, oops...I guess I'll pay a bit more attention to the commercials before I comment from now on.

It did provide us with some serious belly laughter the rest of the evening though.

Death By...

Death by...

...if you had asked me at 5:45am this morning to complete the sentence above I would surely have answered, Death by helicopter.

Not the kind that actually flies, but the "Little People" version. This morning I was feeling uber-productive and my son was still asleep so I took to rearranging some furniture. Namely taking a couple of end tables downstairs for some storage until the little dude outgrows some of his toys. Because, his toys, tents, etc. have taken over our living room. So I picked one of the tables up and turned around to find my bare foot stepping onto a helicopter subsequently making me lurch forward and nearly tumbling down the stairs all while firmly gripping the table. It escapes me, why I didn't toss the table. It all ended well..but barely.

However, if you had asked me at 10:30am to complete the statement above, I would have answered unequivocally, Death by embarrassment.

This morning we had a bazillion errands to run as we are leaving town this Saturday to go visit my folks in the Midwest. One of the errands was to JCPenney's to use a free $10 coupon. (Hooray for free!) Anywho, we were walking towards the kids section and were passing the intimate apparel department when Liam saw a bra and said, "Mammas!". I said, "Right, that's just like mamma's underwear.". And, then he shouted, " MAMMA'S!!" (pause) "BOOBS!!" while pointing at another bra. All this in front of the 20 or so employees standing around having some sort of pow wow.

I. Could. Have. Died.

Have no fear young grasshopper, I'm sure Mamma will embarrass you like this some day too.
