We love the nature center! We go there almost every single Monday for their preschool story time and we often hit it at least one additional time every week just to check on the animals and walk the trails. Over the course of the last year their programs have become more rich, the animals more diverse and the trails better cared for. It really is a tremendous addition to the community.
Over the course of the last few months Liam has fallen in love with the tiny "coloring" station they have in the back section of one classroom. Often they have puzzles or interesting books laid out and they have a giant barrel of crayons that you can use to color a "page" while you are there. Our home is now overrun with a variety of cricket photos and I decided that we'd print out some other animals and just drop them off in the folder of "coloring pages" to give the room some diversity and as a small thank you to the center for providing such an awesome place for us to visit.
Perhaps some other moms will be so thankful that they doesn't not have to "ooh" and "ahh" over yet another colored cricket that they too will print out some pages at home and bring them in as well.
As luck would have it I didn't have to work tonight, so we surprised Liam with a trip to Chuck E. Cheese in our version of Pay It Forward (toddler edition). We have only taken him one other time and it was when schools were closed last winter (I wouldn't suggest that.). The moment we mentioned it he amazed us with his recollections of the place and the games. It's fun to be surprised as an adult, but there is something truly magical about surprising a kid. I think it's good for the soul. It was a great night as a family...and hopefully he'll feel so happy about the event that he'll pay it forward in his own preschooler way to another little dude or dudette at school tomorrow.
Have you found a way to pay it forward yet this month?
