Review (Logic Puzzles)

Interpreters as a trade are notorious for their love of word games--particularly crossword puzzles. A few years back when the Washington Post began including Sudoku you saw many interpreters multi-tasking between the two.

My roommate and I also had a joint-love for cryptograms. We found that the National Cryptologic Museum was nearby and scheduled a visit...STAT. And, we loved trying to figure out all the spy "clues" at the International Spy Museum.

So, it seemed a good fit to check out the "Puzzle Baron's Logic Puzzles" book. It's a collection of 200 logic problems/puzzles that span from relatively easy to incredibly complex. Each puzzle begins with a short story followed by 5 clues and a grid to help you keep track of things. It's a lot of fun and the perfect book for a commuter, traveler or those looking for a quick escape from the hullabaloo of the everyday. Each puzzle states the average time to complete so you can pick a puzzle that fits the time you have available.

Solutions are in the back. And, the first few pages give excellent tips and tricks for figuring out the logic.

Give your brain a great workout and enter to win your own copy of the "Puzzle Baron's Logic Puzzles".

  3. I exercise my brain by chasing three... oh sorry. No, I actually have done a little reading on brain gym which I was introduced to in one of my grad classes. It is a theory that your body needs to engage in exercises that make you cross your midline to to balance energies. The exercises include drawing big horizontal figure 8's on paper and switching hands is awesome too. There are many brain gym exercises out there. Check it out on youtube, pretty interesting stuff. I do want to get into puzzles because I know they are so good for your brain, but I am not a spacial or logic person, so probably all the more reason for me to do them! Thanks for the recommendation even if I don't win!

  5. Sudoku puzzles on my droid. Yay for no more smeared pencil as I wrote in and erased the possible options.

  6. I do Worduku which is the same as Sudoko except it uses letters instead of numbers and one line makes a word. I definitely need to do more of these. Thanks for the opportunity to win.
