Review (Scotch Brite)

When my son was born I made a very concerted effort to start "greening" my life. To start making choices that left less of an impact on the world he would inherit from my generation. Although, after his first birthday I have let myself slip and although I still take reusable bags to the grocery store, use CFL bulbs in all our light fixtures and travel far less for work...I could most certainly do better.

For example, I could start using cleaning products that are more "green". It's an area that I have always shied away from, somehow thinking that green cleaning meant less clean or not as robust of a scrub. Lucky for me, I was able to try out 4 sponges and scouring pads from Scotch-Brite's "Greener Clean" line and I was left very impressed. I found the products to work equally as well as the "non-green" sponges and scouring pads that I was used to. My absolute favorites were the "natural fiber non-scratch scour pads" which cleaned up the icky stickies from a two-year-old's jelly sandwich messes with no added elbow grease required. And, the "biodegradable expanding soft sponges" get a gleaming 4 stars from me. They start out about the thickness of a quarter and with just the tiniest bit of water expand out to the size of a regular sponge. I love this product because of it's super slim storage capacity and because when it expands to it's full size it was super effective and surprisingly very soft.

Not only will I continue to use these products that require less packaging and that are made with more natural ingredients while still cleaning effectively. But, having the opportunity to try these products out will most definitely encourage me to try out more and more "green" products, specifically more "green" cleaning products.

  1. I've liked you for a loooooong time, lady. :)

I go green using vinegar to clean my bathroom. That being said, I will be a total jerk and say I don't want to win. I want to save USPS gas/emissions by letting someone closer to you win! :)

  4. Let's see... we recycle every single thing we can (we're down to filling one stinky bag of trash/week!), carpool to/from school, use reusable grocery bags, purchase items with little packaging, &/or packaging that is made of recycled material &/or can be recycled (packaging pisses me off!) and finally, we try to purchase food or products that are locally made, and support local restaurants that do the same. LOVE this giveaway & post!

  6. We recycle, use reusable bags, reuse store bags for diaper disposal, use baking soda and vinegar to clean (along with store bought stuff), turn off lights, turn off water when brushing teeth, keep our air and heat at a minimal setting (more to save money though) that's all i can think of for now! ~ Alisyne
