Lent: For the Non-Catholic

I'm not Catholic or particularly religious, but ever since I left home for college I have always given up something for Lent. I think it's good to remind myself (at least once a year) how fortunate I am and how little others get by on...be that food, money, love, etc.

So are you ready for the big unveil?

This year for the Lenten season I am giving up soda.

Say what?

You didn't know I could survive without Diet Coke?

Me either.

We'll see how this goes, abstaining for 40 days and nights...STARTS NOW!

Can I do it?

  1. We could both probably do with this, actually. Know what? I'll join you!

  2. WOW - that is impressive. That is actually what I was thinking of giving up, but then I thought I need something with taste every once in a while, so I didn't. But, now you may be motivating me to try after all or at least cut back! Good luck!! ~ Alisyne

  3. You can do it!! I gave up soda over a year ago and haven't missed it at all. I occasionally use it as a mixer in a cocktail, but other than that? Nada. water, juice, tea & coffee fill the void of soda very easily. The first week is the hardest. Once you get past that... you'll be free.

  4. @ Tim: Thanks for joining me. But, now who's going to drink all those cans that stare at me from the 'fridge.

@ Alisyne: Feel free to tag along. The more the merrier.

@ Kelli: Thanks for the encouragement. The Twitterverse was all like, just give up laundry instead. Grin. The hardest part this week was at the movies because they didn't have lemonade or tea and the price of water there is astronomical. But I made it through.

  5. good luck I wouldn't probably only make it 3 days or one really bad day at work before I was pushing over the pepsi machine to get my fix in.

  6. @ Stmapmouse: Thanks, not quite a week and I have still made it. The movie was by far the worse so far. I am drinking lots of tea and lemonade since I still can't get behind plain water. Working on it though...

  7. Oh my gosh, Diet Coke was just in the Google Ad on my page when I posted that last comment. So. Not. Fair.
