3 Things

Three things that drive my husband crazy --- that when it comes down to it, I am really not likely to change.

Money Forests: I like cash and prefer it to using a credit card. It's easier for me to keep track of how much I am spending when I can see the supply diminishing in my wallet. I also love breaking $20's down in to really small bills. So, I always have a dollar in this pocket, a few in that drawer, one under the bed, two in a book, etc. Wherever I was when I got my change back, I probably tossed or tucked or smooshed it into some convenient place nearby. Tim now affectionately calls them money forests and rolls his eyes. They have saved me a time or two when I left the house without dough and could just root around and scrounge up a few bucks. Don't knock it until you try it.

Tabs: Earlier this year Tim taught me that if I hit control+T on the keyboard it opens a new tab and I don't have to open a new stinkin' window every single time I want to go to a new page. And, dear Lord he unlocked a monster. Every new blog post, or Twitter link, or story on my Facebook page that looks like it might be even the slight bit interesting to read, I just "control+T" it. LOoOoOoOoVE it!!! Drives. Him. Batty! Every time something is wrong with my computer or he needs to use it for some reason, he closes them all and I have a near panic attack. Can I get them back?? Where did they go? Why did you close me out of everything??? And, he's all you had a RIDICULOUS amount of tabs open! (like he's doing it for my own good) :P Must watch him more carefully.

Expiration Dates: I do understand that companies put "sell by" or "use by" dates on things so that maybe you'll toss them and buy more product. But here's the kicker I. DON'T. CARE. I don't like being sick. I don't like being sick. I don't like being sick. And if there is an expiration date, use by date, sell by date, less fresh by date, any kind of date on my food. I will be throwing it away that day, if not the day before. I do not care to listen to reason like "It's salt. How can it possibly be bad?". If you'd like to eat it, do, just don't complain if you get sick. Tim laughs, rolls his eyes, but knows this one isn't going any where any time soon.

Do you have things that drive you or your partner crazy that you are not likely to change?

  1. Do I have things that drive my partner crazy? Ha!
Back away from the dishwasher! I and only I can load the dishwasher properly! I don't like things stacked on top of each other, bowls in positions where I know they're not going to get cleaned, butter knives up, steak knives down...I'll even go as far as organizing the silverware inside the machine and positioning dishes where they’re closest to their cabinet homes! (PS - I do not like unloading the dishwasher, the hubby is free and clear to do as he pleases in this department!)
Delete and/or consolidate! If a TV program has been on our DVR for over a week, I will delete it! If we haven’t watched it yet, more than likely, it’s not that important! If our DVR had the option to “organize” programs I think I would be in heaven. The option to retrieve deleted items might be my husband’s heaven! I’ll sometimes catch myself deleting his iPhone emails, texts and voicemails so the little red badges will disappear. Those red badges bug me! They must go away! (Coincidentally, most of those red badges are notifications from my phone number and email address…hmmmmmm??)
The bit about expiration dates – right there with ya! I usually hear, “It’s yogurt! It’s already gone bad!” Also, our chicken is usually very, very dry in our house! I’d rather eat a bad meal than suffer through salmonella! I am known to write dates on salsa and egg beaters because there usually isn’t an expiration date on those things! They usually have a “consume by # of days” after opening. I can never remember when I’ve opened something!
Really when it comes down to it, I am very OCD and maybe a bit of a micro-managing control freak, but our dishes are clean, the DVR has plenty of recording space and the last time my husband had food poisoning was on our honeymoon in Punta Cana!

  4. About the tab thing... do you use firefox? They have a browser add-on that (I think) is called session manager. It allows you to click a button and restore all the tabs that were open during the last and previous to last session. I LOVE this. I do the same thing with tabs. Some bloggers only post a little blurb of their post to RSS, so if I want to read it, I click my scrolly wheel on my mouse and a new tab opens with the link. It's not uncommon for me to have 20-30 tabs open. More if I am looking at a recipe site! LOL

  5. For what it's worth, I actually *like* the money forests and the expiration date thing. They're some of the many little reasons I love you - and I know I will NEVER end up accidentally drinking some expired milk. The browser tab thing.... well.... the computer engineer geek inside me is upset about how it'll cause the browser to use all of your RAM, and then the computer is slow.... :)

    Love you!

  6. @ Jolene: Yes, blogs are my downfall. I don't always have time to read when I see an interesting link, post, RSS and so I just pop open a new tab.

    @ Tim: Awwww.
